ShowAndTellLetter is a free educational resource for parents, teachers, and homeschoolers. This policy explains in plain language what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

1. Who We Are

ShowAndTellLetter ("we," "our," or "the site") is operated at showandtellletter.com. For privacy questions, contact us at info@showandtellletter.com.

2. Information We Collect

a) Automatically collected data

When you visit the site, standard web server logs may record your IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages you visit. This data is used for security and basic traffic analysis and is not linked to your identity. We also run our own privacy-friendly visitor statistics on this site: it uses no cookies and no third-party analytics service, does not store your IP address (only an anonymous daily-rotating code and your country), and counts page views, approximate visitor numbers, and which links get clicked so we can improve the site.

b) Information you provide voluntarily

If you submit the newsletter sign-up form, we collect your email address, which is processed and stored by Buttondown, the newsletter service we use to send our emails. We use it only to send the content you requested. If you request the complete A–Z printable pack, confirming your subscription redirects you to its download page. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.

c) Information collected by third parties when you interact

Some pages embed YouTube videos, and some links are affiliate links. When you play an embedded video or click an affiliate link, the third party involved (Google/YouTube, or Awin and the merchant) may collect data under its own privacy policy. See Sections 4 and 8 for details.

d) Information we do not collect

We do not collect names, home addresses, phone numbers, or payment information. We do not require account creation to use the site.

3. Cookies and Local Storage

This site does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and our own visitor statistics are cookieless. The storage involved in using this site is:

Category Purpose Can be declined?
Essential (local storage) Remembers your cookie-banner choice in your browser's local storage so the banner is not shown on every visit. It never leaves your device. No — required for the banner preference to work. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Third-party (only if you interact) YouTube may set cookies when you play an embedded video. A merchant may set cookies after you click an affiliate link and land on their store. These are set by the third party, not by us. Yes — simply not playing a video or not clicking an affiliate link avoids them entirely.

You can also block cookies and clear local storage entirely in your browser settings. If you clear local storage, the cookie banner may reappear on your next visit.

4. Third-Party Embeds and Affiliate Links

Advertising: This site currently displays no third-party advertising — there is no Google AdSense or any other ad network running on these pages. If that ever changes, we will update this policy before any ads go live.

YouTube embeds: Some pages embed videos hosted on YouTube. The video does not load data from YouTube until the page requests it, and when you press play, YouTube/Google may set cookies and collect data under Google's Privacy Policy. You can control personalised advertising across Google services in Google Ad Settings.

Affiliate links: A small number of links (currently to Hooked on Phonics) are affiliate links routed through the Awin network. If you click one, Awin and the merchant may set cookies on their own sites to attribute a possible purchase. See our Disclosure Statement for how affiliate links are labelled.

5. Google Fonts

This site loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). When your browser requests these fonts, your IP address is sent to Google's servers under Google's Privacy Policy. This occurs regardless of your advertising cookie choice. You can block Google Fonts via a browser extension if preferred.

6. Analytics

We run our own first-party visitor statistics (described in Section 2a): cookieless, no third-party analytics service, no stored IP addresses, and no individual user profiles. We do not use Google Analytics or any similar third-party analytics product on this site.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

ShowAndTellLetter is directed exclusively at adults — parents, teachers, caregivers, and homeschoolers. It is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Because our content covers early-childhood education (preschool through second grade), we take extra precautions beyond the minimum required by COPPA:

  • No advertising networks: The site currently runs no third-party ad network, so no personalised advertising is served to any visitor, adult or child
  • No child-facing inputs: No forms, comment sections, or interactive fields are presented to or intended for children. Newsletter sign-up, contact forms, and any future account features are reserved for adult users only
  • Privacy-friendly statistics: Our own statistics are cookieless, store no IP addresses, and are never used to profile or target any visitor
  • Content screening: Embedded third-party content (such as YouTube videos) is reviewed to ensure age-appropriateness for family audiences
  • Parental rights: If you believe a child under 13 has submitted any personal data to this site, contact us immediately at info@showandtellletter.com. We will verify and promptly delete the information

This site has not been submitted for CARU (Children's Advertising Review Unit) approval. If you have concerns about child-directed advertising standards on this site, you may contact CARU at bbbprograms.org/programs/all-programs/caru.

8. Third-Party Services

The following external services may process data when you use this site:

  • Buttondown — newsletter delivery. If you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Buttondown so we can send the newsletter.
  • YouTube — embedded videos on some pages. YouTube/Google may set cookies when you play a video, under Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Awin — affiliate link routing. If you click a Hooked on Phonics affiliate link, Awin and the merchant may set cookies on their own sites to attribute a purchase.
  • Google Fonts — font delivery. Sends IP address to Google servers.
  • Cloudflare — website hosting and content delivery. Standard server logs (see Section 2a).
  • Downloadable files — PDFs are hosted on this site. Our cookieless statistics may count that a download link was clicked, without identifying who clicked it.

9. How We Use Information

Information collected is used to:

  • Deliver the newsletter you subscribed to
  • Understand which pages and resources are most useful (aggregate only)
  • Maintain site security and diagnose technical issues
  • Respond to messages or requests you send us

10. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we process personal data under these legal bases:

  • Consent — newsletter subscriptions. Consent may be withdrawn at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Legitimate interests — server logs for security and our cookieless aggregate statistics, where these do not override your rights.

11. International Data Transfers

ShowAndTellLetter is operated from the United States. If you are visiting from the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or another jurisdiction with data-protection laws, please be aware that:

  • Server log data and any information you voluntarily submit may be processed on servers located in the United States
  • The third-party services we use (Buttondown, Google Fonts and YouTube, Awin, Cloudflare) may process data internationally under their own safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and Data Privacy Framework participation where applicable
  • By using this site, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data-protection laws differ from your own

12. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Withdraw consent — for the newsletter, unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Data portability — receive a copy of data we hold about you in a structured, commonly-used format

To exercise any right, email info@showandtellletter.com. We will respond within 30 days. EEA and UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.

13. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  • Right to know — what personal data we collect and how it is used
  • Right to delete — request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" — we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Third parties such as YouTube may collect data when you choose to play an embedded video, under their own policies
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — we do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under CPRA
  • Right to non-discrimination — declining or clearing cookies and local storage will not affect your access to any site content

14. Data Retention

Newsletter email addresses are retained (by Buttondown) until you unsubscribe. Server log data is retained for up to 90 days. Cookie-banner preferences are stored only in your browser's local storage and are never sent to our servers. Our first-party statistics are stored as daily aggregates with anonymous codes that rotate every day and cannot be linked across days.

15. Do Not Track

We respect Do Not Track: if your browser sends a DNT signal, our own visitor statistics do not record your visit. Third-party embeds such as YouTube follow their own policies when you choose to play a video.

16. Data Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect data submitted to us. The site is served over HTTPS. No internet transmission is completely secure. Please do not submit sensitive personal information through contact forms.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the site grows or as legal requirements change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. For material changes, we will provide notice on the site's homepage for at least 30 days. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
